Just three kilometres from Young along Murringo Road, planted to a brisk 500 metres above sea level, Grove Estate was originally sown to vines in 1886, by Croatian settlers who brought cuttings from their farms on the Dalmatian coast. Some of these ancient plantings, emigrated at a time when much of Europe was ruled by Hapsburg emperors, remain productive to this day. Cotes du Luberon are at the very southeast of Valley Rhone, immediately south of Cotes de Ventoux, where a number of local communes make wine in the same way as their ancient forebears. An eclectic cepage of Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc, Vermentino and Ugni Blanc. Grapes are lightly crushed and pressed for a long cool fermentation in traditional open vats, a tenth is vinified in the luxury of new French oak barrels while being treated to a course of lees stirring battonage. Components are fined and assembled in the January after harvest.
